Volunteer's Induction - All volunteers MUST read

Become a Volunteer and help the Festival grow!

Without its enthusiastic and happy volunteers the Abbey Medieval Festival would not have become Australia’s premier medieval festival.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the fantastic team of volunteers that make the Abbey Medieval Festival and Tournament such a wonderful experience, please contact the Abbey Museum's Festival Committee on 07 5495 1652.

During the weekend of the Medieval Tournament, our volunteers work in the following areas:

  • GATE: As ticket sellers (EFTPOS experience is an advantage); Wrist-banding and Postcode Recording

  • MUSEUM SHOP & MUSEUM INFORMATION CENTRE

  • TAVERN: As bar staff

  • GENERAL FESTIVAL: Information Survey recording; Monitoring performance times; Hygiene Officers, Information Officers, Spruikers and Festival runners.

We are currently looking for help with research, marketing, sponsorships, fund-raising, ticket sales, crowd control, parking, site preparation, the Banquet, Masque Ball, and manning the stalls and gates.

We particularly value volunteers who are prepared to help set up the props for the Festival in the week preceding the event and to pack everything away in the week afterwards.

Some volunteers prefer to work behind the scenes, playing a vital role in keeping the Festival running smoothly.  Others prefer a more active role, talking to the crowds of people who come to enjoy this festival.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Coordinator for Volunteers for 2010 is Monica Williams.  Phone: 5495 1652.  Her email is volcoord@abbeytournament.com

WHAT VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUIRED TO DO!

Prior to the Festival
Volunteers are required to attend Festival and/or Banquet meetings at the Abbey Hall approximately 1 to 2 weeks before the Festival begins.  This meeting offers opportunities to learn about your respective duties and be allocated a costume.

It also offers you an opportunity to meet other volunteers, Festival organisers and orientate yourself on the ground.

On Tournament Days

• Volunteers must meet their Volunteer Co-ordinator at the Volunteer Centre 15 minutes prior to commencing their roster on the days of the Tournament.

• Volunteers are required to sign on and off duty for Workplace Health and Safety reasons.

• Your medieval costume will be available on signature at the Volunteer Centre on the days of the Tournament.

What you will receive

• Volunteers are issued with a name badge.

• A roster of duties and map of Tournament grounds.

• Volunteers are provided with sandwiches, tea, coffee and water during work hours.

• Volunteers who work for a total of 8 hours before, during and after the Tournament are given one Adult Pass. Those who work 16 hours are given a Day Family Pass.

• Volunteers are given a souvenir T-shirt at a special ‘thank-you’ Barbeque/Event Review Meeting to be held after the Festival.

The Abbey Medieval Festival has become Australia’s premier medieval event.  People inundate us with glowing and appreciative comments.  It is a festival that reaches both young and old; something that the whole family can participate in.  It is both educational and entertainment.  Your contribution may be small or great but we appreciate your help.

Why not complete the APPLICATION FORM or phone us (see CONTACT US) and volunteer for the next Abbey Medieval Festival?
