Queensland group, Musica Prima, joins us this
year to entertain and enthral us.
Musica Prima specialise
in the performance of Medieval and Renaissance music on
replica period instruments. The group has been
performing together and teaching dance at festivals and events
over the last decade. They have built an
ever-expanding collection of wind and string instruments,
including Medieval Fiddle and Viola, Hammered Dulcimer,
Lute, Recorders, Shawms, Cornemuse, Bowed Psaltery, Hurdy-Gurdy,
medieval bagpipes, Portative Organ and percussion.
With this impressive array of instruments and the group’s
dedication to authentic arranging and reproduction of music
from the medieval period, you will be transported back in
time for an evening of medieval dance and merrymaking.
A selection of medieval nibblies will be available to
purchase on the night, and your ticket includes a free glass
of mulled wine. A bar will be running to sate your
thirst. Please note that EFTPOS will not be available
on the night.
Medieval garb and masks are not essential, but make the
night more of an occasion! If you just don’t have a
thing to wear in the wardrobe, there are many useful
websites that detail how to make your own costume.

masque@abbeytournament.com
The workshop will be run twice during the day at the Abbey
Hall (on the grounds of the Abbey Museum of Art &
Archaeology). Come for just one workshop, or get
elaborate and stay all day! Sessions run from 10 am to
1.00 pm, and 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
A single session costs $10; participate in both for $15
(whole day includes a sausage sizzle lunch). Tea,
coffee and biscuits will be provided during the day.
Mask-making notes...
All your basic mask-making supplies will be provided
(mask form, glue, scrap materials, scissors—that kind of
thing), but bring along some crafty bits and pieces from
home to personalise your mask. See what other people
are making, share some ideas, and have fun creating a piece
of art to show off on the night of the Masque Ball.
